Methyl acetate is used as a solvent in glues, paints, and nail polish removers, in chemical reactions, and for extractions. It is also a solvent in fast drying paints such as lacquers and for waste film in the production of cellulosic adhesives. Methyl acetate is a perfume solvent. It is a reaction solvent in dye production.
